Wii is the actual name for the system formerly known as Revolution.

If you remember, Gamecube was known as Dolphin for a time. It isn't unusual for Nintendo to use names for systems until they come up with the actual name for the system. Revolution was used, because that is what they want to do with the Wii. Make it a revolutionary system. But the actual name: Wii.

Calivane is right. Nintendo usually uses a code name while they are developing a new game system. They are calling their new system the Wii becaise the two "i" look like the new controller.
