Alec Empire and Lightning Bolt are good examples of the kind of music that I'm talking about.

I'm pretty calm and laidback, to clarify and respond to mynickname's answer.

I don't concentrate on words. See above examples for reference. I let myself go and let the music take hold.

There are those whose self have been in that same position.

The human brain is the most powerfull tool in the universe, it is trillions and trillion of times faster than the current fastest computer ever build. The brain works in a fascinating way, that it uses neurons and electrons to stimulate it. When the brain receives input from all your senses, these neurons and electrons stimulate the parts of the brains that releases chemicals such as dopamine, serotonin, and even morphine that is naturally occuring in your body.
The state where you are trancelike when you are listening to the music that you listens to, are stimulated be the frequencies that is vibrating your ear drums. In that, your brain tells you that the music you're listening to are enjoyable and releases these chemicals that makes you happy, sad, angry, or gloomy.

However, you have to be careful. Listening to loud music too often will render your cochlea (inner ear) to not be able to function. Meaning, you will lose your hearing far too soon before you're supposed to lose them.

As a suggestion, moderation is the key.

If you like to listen to the words rather than the music....then you have to concentrate to hear them in the chaos the music causes. Once you concentrate on finding the words in the mess, you become calm and almost trance like.

I don't know about the loud chaotic music, but it's possible through will or meditation or whatever you wanna call it to change your brain wave state to the delta mode which is like a deep REM sleep state.

I'm the same way and I think it is because the loud, chaoticness of the music absorbs all the loud, chaotic energy in your body like a sponge. Or something weird and metaphysical like that. :)

Maybe because it's something you can identify with and you feel completely comfortable with, so you let your guard down. Maybe you don't feel 100% calm throughout the day when you interact with other people and situations until you are with your music.

Maybe you have a sensory dysfunction? Like kids with hyperactivity that need a stimulant to actually calm down.

It is just a simple case of over stimulation. Your brain starts to function abnormally in order to cope with all of the sensory overload.

It's not necesarily calming, more than it is draining. Yo mean to tell me you don't feel the difference after listening to classical music or what you're used to?

I think your mind becomes drained, after so much anger, why are you so angry?
