I've had my reservations in the past about tanning beds which is why I never really went and did it. I am scared I will turn orange or something!! But I have reached to the point of deseperation now, I am from the Carribbean so having a tan is natural to me, but I have been in Canada for the past 5 months..and as you know winter isn't exactly tanning weather lol

How long and how often do I have to go in the tanning bed to achieve good results (I don't want to be all dark and unnatural i just want some colour!)...are the standing ones better..?? what do you recommend?

I just went in the other day to a tanning salon and inquired about this stuff too. I am really fair skinned and burn easily. I have in the past went to a tanning bed a few times but not long enough to get any results from it. Now that I am losing some weight and trying to look good for summer I think that I am going to try it.

I don't think they turn you orange or make you look like that. The only way that you would the woman at the salon said is if you are fair skinned like me and use a lotion with a bronzer in it which is not recommended for fair skin tones. But being from Caribbean originally I would not think that would be a problem for you.

She told me being fair skinned I would start at 3 minutes everyday for one month and by the end of the month I could be increased to about 5 minutes. This is in the best bed that she has called the Lotus. She said that it is the best and even better than the standing one.

I would recommend that you do like me...go into the salon and talk to the owner or manager. Ask about their beds. Ask what they recommend for your skin tone on time and lotions etc.

Yes tanning beds really work. If you are dark complected to start with you could probably go twice a week and maintain a beautiful color. You will not turn orange unless you use a product with some kind of color in it to help you tan. There are good lotions and oils made specially for tanning solutions so do your homework to get the best for your skin type.

I personally like the stand up tanning solutions better because I seem to get a more even tan. I h ave friends who prefer the beds so try them both and see what works for you!

Tanning beds work just like regular sunlight exept at a faster rate. If you tan easily in the sun then you will tan in the bed. Most tanning salons offer beds with different levels of UV. And if you tan easily you shouldn't need more than 2-3 sessions before you can see natural results. Using a tanning lotion is very important. There are many to choose from, some have bronzers, which adds that "shimmery" look to your skin. UV-free tanning is also available at many salons, aka Mystic tanning.

Tanning beds work, and they work the same way the sun does, so please use the same precautions - sunscreen, etc. You can still get skin cancer and burns from tanning beds. If you want a tan, I recommend a bronzer, probably a gradually building lotion one. They've made incredible advancements over the past couple years. You may want to try a couple different ones to see which you like better. I'm a big fan of the Prescriptives Brand bronzing powder, but it washes off every night, not good for a lasting tan that you probably want, but good for blending funky tan lines (like the dreaded "farmer tan" that I accidentally got a couple weeks ago).

I'm naturally olive toned but yet when the winter months hit (I live in the NW) I tend to lighten up and not all areas are the same tone so I tan about once a week, when and if you decide to tan ask for a bronzer, if your naturally tan (or even if your not) this bronzer will help add a brown tint you NOT an orange one. Go in for a minimum amount and see what happens.

My friend and i have jsut started going to a tanning bed becasue she is getting married in a month. today was our 5th time and this is our experience:
the first time we went we tanned for about 7min and nothing happend to me, but she got burned (we have almost the exact same skin type)
the second time we went we tryed a different place with more powerfull beds, we both went in for 7 min and burned pretty bad so we didn't go tanning for about 3 days
(to let the burn heal)
after i got that burn i haven't really got burned again either has my frined.
we now go in the bed for about 14 min so far we have acchived a nice tan.
A tanning solution is a must, they usually have them at the place where your tanning, and protective eyeware is a must also)
over all i would deffintely say go to a tanning bed. but be careful and take their advice when thay give it. and ask lots of questions.
Hope this helps.

Tanning beds do work. To avoid being orange...try to use a good quality tanning accelerator (try Drama Queen or Spellbound..both by Designer Skin)

Lots of my friends have went to tanning beds and the next day they saw results.(good ones). But it has been a proven fact that going to tanning beds way to many times can cause the user to develop Malignant Melanoma, which is a type of cancer. So i suggest that you go tan but not to often.

well you need to use a tanning lotion with bronzer in it and not lay for for than 15 min for a couple of times. about 2-3 times a week. Then use a lotion with a tingle factor in it and lay longer but good luck because tingle factors really light you up.
