The rule, as always, is to stay away from those that ask you to pay before you can get these surveys.
Legitimate market survey companies such as Pinecone Research recruit members based on demographic characteristics -- e.g. mothers of babies 0-12 years old -- and will send surveys of products and services targeting this demographic group. Pinecone Research, however, pays only $5 per survey -- you're definitely not going to be rich with that. They can give you anywhere from 1-5 at most surveys in a month.
Other companies simply ask you to answer as many research as possible, and you don't earn anything just the chance to win at a raffle (which I find lame).
The article "Earning Money from Surveys" provide a short list of legitimate market research firms and contains explanations of what to look for when joining surveys (and weeding out the fraudulent ones)

I paid to get a list and they send me a link maybe once or twice a month to participate in a survey. First you take some preliminary survey to see if they want you to participate in the actual survey. And send you an email telling you that your name will be entered into a drawing to possibly win 1000 dollars. Needless to say I've had one survey in over a year that they sent me some lotion to try and I received no money for anything as of yet. I wouldn't bother you'd be better off to get a part time job working a few hours away from home.

I wouldn't do any surveys that charge a fee. There are enough surveys out there that pay good and don't charge a fee. A friend of mine has checks coming in all the time. Also, some of them put money on her pay pall account. She only does them a couple of hours a day. So, she would make more if she put in more time. She also gets a lot of free products to try at home, and do a survey on the product. Most survey places have a test for you to take to see if you qualify, and will tell you which ones you would qualify for. I hope this helped you.

I have belonged to three of these "panels", one of them for nearly 6 years now. One of the companies awards you points for completing surveys and once you've accumulated a certain amount of points, can literally cash it in. They mail you a check.
The other company (who I've been with for 6 years) sends us products to test occasionally, along with surveys. So we've received a lot of free video games and kids toys. One was a Mattel computer microscope worth nearly $70.
But these two specific companies do NOT mass-mail people to join...

They're all scandalous. Don't waste your time unless you have someone refer you to one that's legit. I use to do those surveys, and all it gave me was a headache. You get so many pop-ups when you just try to check your e-mail and a lot of spam sent to your mailbox.

You can make a little money and a few gift certif.but no where near what the sites promise. In fact, you don't even need to pay to find them-just search for them with a search engine.

don't waste your time. nothing worth having is free. they will run you through a very long gauntlet and you'll never get what they promise. they always have some slick way of wording it to get out of it.
