Because they are mostly Muslim, and, as Americans, you are either Christian (white), Muslim (Arab), Jewish (um, Jewish), or a godless heathen (people with naturally occurring melanin). there is, of course, a large difference between all societies, but Americans like it simple (two party system anyone?). Hell, most people don't know turkey is a member of NATO, one of our closest allies, and has a secular government.+

Turkish people are not Arabs. They have their own language. They originated in the East, not in the Middle East.

It is the result of poor and self-centric western education. Common thought Muslim = Arab

yes in the west muslim=arab, most people don't know that one can be anon arab muslim or a non muslim arab. I love turky though! its one of my fav countries i hope to go there some time.
