I've always thought that was the stupidest darn question I've ever heard.

Who is "they" to you?
I suggest finding your answer to the "meaning of life" in that which changes not, the Bible and Lord of the Universe:
“For I am the LORD, I do not change" (Malachi 3:6)
"Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is NO VARIATION or SHIFTING SHADOW." (James 1:17)
Thus, the answer to the question, "What is the meaning of life?" is only is stable as the source of its answer. Man is doubting, hesitating, and unstable..."he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." Thus, you cannot trust his answer. We must therefore seek for an answer in a superior Source. In my case, the Bible is that Source.
Have you looked into the possibility of the Bible being the source of discovering an unchanging definition to the meaning of life?

It keeps changing because it is a purely subjective question. No one must ask what is the meaning of life, because the meaning of life is a sh!t wiping stick. I've asked that question, but aside from the fact that life has no meaning the only pure answer is non-communicative, meditative, and understood.
Maybe Louie Armstrong knew the meaning of life better than any of us. The meaning of life is the meaning of jazz.
"Man if you gotta ask, you'll NEVER know!" -Louie Armstrong's response to 'what is jazz?'.

They never changed the answer. Everyone always knows the answer to Life, the Universe, and everything. It is the QUESTION we never really solved. Actually though the question was given as well. It just never made much sense. Although that is only fitting.

The meaning of the question changes every time you ask it.

I think that the changing answer itself is interesting.
The way that you answer the question "What is the meaning of Life" tells you something about that person, or that generation, or that religious or ethnic group, or that time period.

asking the question is what gives meaning to your life. the important thing here is the point of view: YOU. you should be the one who asks the question...and also the one who answers. seek the truth within yourself.

then why not? every day there's more of a meaning with the more answers, so why shouldn't we ask and know that there is a reason to live?

The question is what's important. Answers are relative. Thought provocation and the expansion of mind is what it's all about.
