How in the world are USA ranked 5th?

Calm down with the political stuff! personally i think its a disgrace how they can be ranked 5th in the world when at least 17 could walk over them easy.

I take it you mean football? it all depends on which other teams they play against, they could play against so called lowly sides such as those from Eastern Europe or the Middle East, romp home with emphatic victories which would boost their global ranking, if they played the likes of Brazil and France etc... they would end up more like 100th in the world!

I don't know why everybody is dissing the US so much. the US has a very good team and they just had a bad outing. To say that the US will get beat by some of the teams like Brazil, Germany, England, etc. is probably true but can be false as well. On any given day a team can win. Upsets do happen you dumb f*cks. In every game that they played against Brazil they lost only by 1 point. England only won 3 out of 5 against the USA. This years team has done a tremendous job and earned their way to the fitfh in the world. They just got beat by a team that is ranked 2nd in the world and played great ball against them

Its all down to geography. The USA play the minnows of football on a regular basis, so pick up easy ranking points. If the USA played European and top African and South American teams on a regular basis then they would probably just make the top 32. Look what the Czech Republic did to them.

Because we don't play any of the tough European teams often enough. It's easy to beat up on small teams like Honduras, Jamica and Costa Rica but if we'd play England, Germany, Italy or The Czech Republic more often we'd have a more realistic ranking (and we'd probably be a better team as well.).

The way it is ranked is that the US is compared with North American teams ....not combined with Euro ....I was listenning to an American Radio station and they stated how can you believe a ranking that Coca Cola helped to bring out ..pure comercialism !! Last world cup ...Poland did not win any except for the one against the US ...this time they were slaughtered ...!!! They are Newbies !! It was in the 30's before that that they were in the world cup ...so if you feel they are a power country in soccer/futeball you're only kidding yourself

The USA is ranked 5th beacause we have a solid team of great players, they have been playing and qualifying for 2 years together as a team. Thats how their ranked 5th!!!

I AM THINKING bobdog and the other dude championing USA are not watching the same games we are or maybe they are confusing American rugby with real football. My thoery at first is that they may have intimidated the heck out of FIFA with weapons and threat of an A-Bomb.lol.But then you look at their opponents in Mexico and Central America and it makes a lot more sense... SO for bobdog and the other dude,USA SUCKS AND HOW COME I NEVER GLIMPSED THE DONOVAN DUDE ? THE TEAM WAS ARROGANT,PHYSICAL,PLAYED OFFENSE WAY TOO MUCH. If USA wins against Ghana,don't rejoice too much since this is Ghana's first outing.

Results. The USA has beaten higher ranked teams in other competitions and qualifiers so their rank has risen and other teams have lost to lower ranked teams so have dropped. Its strange how they work it out, but on paper the USA should beat the teams they are up against.

They are ranked 5th due to the FIFA rankings being flawed.
The US don't tend to play the tough European or Southern American teams. They play alot of mediocre teams and have moved up the rankings due to success against these teams.
