I did one on the history of insane asylums.
Also, I did one on how multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia were often mistaken for demonic possession.

My last year of college, I wrote up a pscyhometric survey to study whether there was a correllation between the number of violations a landlord committed and how much tenants enjoyed living in their apartment. You could try a correllational study like that. If you wanted to have some fun, you could do something silly like "do blondes really have more fun?" Of course you have to set your definitions and make it measurable. So, like, you would want to define fun as "hours (or percentage of time) spent on recreational activity" or something like that.
Ooh, you could have all kinds of fun. I hope this project is just to show you know how to conduct research and set measurable parameters, and not some kind of masters or Ph.D. thesis thing.
If it's that, I have some other ideas. You could study the correlation of depression to obesity. Or, you could study the correlation of weight to wages. Ooh, that would be cool. Like, not actual weight, but maybe BMI or something like that.
I could probably come up with a couple more ideas if you give me some feedback. My screen name is my user name for yahoo, OK? Just put psychology research in the subject line or something so I don't delete you.
