Thanks xx

I would suggest something with simple harmonic structure and interesting rhythms, as this most appeals to children. How about jazz songs, or folk songs (or folk-influenced songs)? Nonsense songs like Armstrong Gibbs' settings of Walter de-la-mare's poems or Britten's settings of W.H.Auden's poetry - I especially recommend the latter - great music including mentions of llamas and picking one's nose!

'Shining Star' really IS a shining star!

Disney have some superb songs that would not only be challenging enough for a classically trained singer but also enthralling for the children to hear being sung live.

My own personal favourite would probably be something from 'The Little Mermaid' or 'Beauty and the Beast'.

As 'The Wizard of Oz' was recently released as an anniversary special - Over The Rainbow could also go down well.

Whatever you decide will go down a storm - if you care enough to ask for advice, then I know you care enough to make the right choices.

Break a leg!

this is not a classical song, but it's a classic. When I was in second grade we had a girl come to our classroom with her guitar to sing for us. She sang Bobby McGee, by of course Janis Joplin. When I was 9, I didn't even know who Janis was, but I remembered it always. When I got older and I found out who Janis was only then did I respect it, but like I said, I never forgot it.

Disney songs, there are some good classical pieces there. Songs from Mary Poppins for instance.
