Normally I would say no. In this case I say YES. He was driving without a license or permit to operate a motorcycle, under PA state law even if he had a permit, his required to where a helmet. This continues until he has been in possession of a license for two years. He was participating in "dangerous" activities and illegal ones too. Love the guy as a QB, but he is just a kid.

I wouldn't surprise me if they did put a clause into his contract prohibiting him from doing anything reckless during the remainder of his contract. It was an ignorant thing to do and to be honest I am quite disapointed by his attitude. I thought he was more mature than he is. Maybe this will be his wake up call and he won't ride without a helmet in the futrue. He is lucky to not have done serious harm to himself and miss out on a terrific career with the Steelers....

Well he knows not to do that anymore. The Steelers don't need to fine him at all because that was his choice to do so. It's legal down there that you don't have to wear a helment. The Steelers can't tell him what to do off the field. Only when he's at practice or he's playing a game they can fine him if he did something bad.

I think it was a stupid and selfish act. He had to realize his value to the team, especially after winning the SB. Now, who knows how well he'll come back.

Riding a motorcycle IS dangerous, not necessarily because he may have rode recklessly, but because others can't see you well! Choosing to ride AND not wear a helmet says to me that he simply didn't care about the team, that he felt his personal enjoyment was more important that being safe.

At this point, a fine is useless. If he doesn't get it after this, he never will.

I don't think they should fine him. The excruciating pain he is in and the fact that he has to deal with plastic surgery, painful tooth implants and permanent scarring should be enough of a reminder that he was young and stupid and didn't consider the consequences of his actions. I do think his contract should be amended to ban motorcycles and other dangerous activity and that failure to follow this clause will result in heavy fines.
At 24 years old Big Ben though his was invincible, now he knows he's only human. Like my friend from Oklahoma would say, "That'll learn 'im!"

As a rider myself i know that it is a choice in quite a few states as to wether or not to wear a helmet when riding. BUT. If you have to wear a helmet on the field with guys trying to hurt you I would think that Ben would be smart enough to ride with one as well. After all I have never heard of anyone getting hurt like that on the football feail.... oh yeah, They are all wearing helmet!FINE HIM and make an example out of him to remind all of the Smart College learned Pro ball players that they are not invicable after all!
