The Tony Awards have been my favorite night of the year. I lived in a small town where the tours didn't come and if they did my family couldn't afford them. So the Tonys provided me a glimpse of the shows I had been hearing about or listening to.

A slightly less tedious show than the Academy Awards. The Tony Awards occasionally reward true talent and inspiration but generally are as full of spin as any other awards program.

It's the one night every year where Broadway takes prime time. We get to see the hard work pay off for all the performers, creative team, and production people. Not to meantion the fantastic performances from that season's Broadway shows.

And it gives someone who may not be able to get to NY to see the shows a chance to experience a taste of Broadway.
