not all teens are like that, take my older brother and I, we just got home from a great night out with mom and dad, we like spending time with them and doing things together. we even saved up over $100 to take them and our littler siblings out to a nice restraunt when we went to the beach last month. we try (and yes some times we fail) to have a good attitudes all the time. we respect others, and always try to be helpful. as i said we are not perfect and we have our down days, but most of the time we are nice, caring, and have a good attitude.

Horomones and a desire for independence. Besides, sometimes there are things you can talk to your friends about and not your parents. It's not personal, all teens do it. Try trying to understand your son or daughter. Play a game, get them off the computer, away form the TV. Just talk to them. They'll appreciate the effort. This is coming from a fifteen year old boy, by the way.

Teenagers are going through something traumatic between those years of 12-21. It is called "identity crisis". They want to assert their independence while maintaining a sense of security. They need to find out for themselves that years of experience makes you wise. They need to find out for themselves how your opinions were formed. Learning by proxy is not in their vocabulary. Good thing is it is a phase. Bad thing is that most parents forget what they were like as teenagers when they become parents and blame their children for pulling away (just as they did with their parents).
Have patience and love. It is their way of growing up. Guide them with love and let them know that you will be there if they need it. Then stand back and let them find out for themselves. As long as they aren't getting arrested, getting pregnant, and/or comitting a crime; let them be young and foolish. They will grow up eventually.
