The car is a Buick Lesabre- by that way it,s fixable right? I don't think i need a new one.

Could be a lot of things, but the first thing I'd check is the tranny fluid level. There's dipstick somewhere.

I wouldn't drive the car like that, the transmission may eat itself.

Depends on the car. A Dodge perhaps? Sounds like it's in "limp-in" mode. If it's a dodge, reprogram the computer. Buy the manual or look up on line to get the procedure.

some automatic trannys have a vacume hose going to a module mounted on the out side of the tranny,, if it has come off or has a hole in it , it will interfear with reverse and shifting out of first. try this ,, put the shifter in fisrt , then manually shift it to second and drive , if it shifts manually its the vacum hose.
