It makes perfect sense to lose points for asking questions and to have limits on the amount of answer and questions you can do in 24 hours. Take a look at most free for all forums that have a higher level of spam and pointless posts, Y!A is trying to limit the junk and charging people points makes more sense seeing as there is too much content on this site for any moderator to be able to police. I like it spam free and that the spammers get annoyed with the limits and go away or are banned before they can get to the higher levels.

The only thing Retarded about it is that people like you, burning 5 points to, keep asking this question about a hundred times a day.
If you go to the Yahoo Answers catagory you find this question many, many times.

Yes and no. You were tought in school any questions is a good question and told to ask as many as you want. Well stay a while and see some of the dumb stuff people ask. I think some of them should of had more then just 3 points takin off :)

I totally agree-except with the "retarded" part. I really just don't like the fact that they have to take off points-I mean we are some curious people on this websites.

Its a simple way to keep spam down as well as encourage ppl to answer questions v/s just post theirs! You never know, in the future Yahoo could have an incentive for ppl to answer questions

No.
The system makes sense.
If all we did was ask question, no questions would get answered. Yahoo! Answers encourages answering questions even more so than asking for this reason.

no, because if you didnt get penalized a small amount for asking questions no one would answer them. People would be posting all these questions and comments, and not taking the time to answer.

No.
I think it is set up that way to try to get people to ask serious questions (not "how much wood...", "if peter piper...", etc). I only wish it did curb that kind of garbage.
