If you are talking about the engine in your auto the answer is yes. It is mostly lubricated by the splash from the crankshaft plunging into and out of the oil in the oil pan. That is why it is important that you keep the oil level up to the proper level. There are oil rings around each pistion that seal the pistions against the piston block wall to prevent the oil from getting into the firing chamber of the engine. If you see a car that blows a lot of smoke from the exhaust pipe you can almost beat that the piston rings are wore and he is pumping oil into the firing chamber.

yes. Oil goes through the oil pump thru the bottom end and to oil jackets in the head. Which then lubes the lifters, cam shaft(s)and back down to the bearings and so forth
