I'm 17 weeks pregnant. It's still early in the morning here and I'm going to my doctor today, but I've been experiencing a feeling of extreme heaviness in the area of my uterus that came on about 24 hours ago. At first I thought it was the way I had slept or maybe that I needed to have a bowel movement, though the feeling was much higher, but it hasn't gone away.

Has anyone else felt this, and if so, what caused it?

Yes I felt this, and it can be normal, just the way the baby is situated. At this point, the baby is starting to grow larger than the size of your uterus, and especially if this is your first pregnancy, you are going to start feeling those muscles stretch and ligaments pull.

That being said, you are the best guage for your body. Talk over all your concerns with your ob/gyn. You should have the type of relationship with your doctor that is open to you being able to ask them anything. Remember, you will probably not shock him/her with any question - since they probably have heard it before, and also, this might be the 10,000 kid they delivered, but your first, so they should be patient and accommodating.

Congratulations, and good luck.

Most likely it is the position the baby is in causing this feeling ,I would tell my doc but dont be too alarmed ,just wait until you get a charley horse at 3am or the baby kicks so hard he or she wakes you. My point is your going to feel very invaded and pains in every oriffice until the wee one make there presence just sit and enjoy all of that is totaly outweighted by good...
good luck and congratulations
