The women's college softball finals got better ratings than the NHL finals. Anyone have any comment on how the NHL has fallen so low?

I don't know if it is a sign of the lack of interest in the NHL or a surge in interest in softball. The last three years have seen record enrollment in our town's girls softball league and more and more competitive travel teams are being formed. My daughter is just seven and has been recruited by two traveling teams. The season ended June 10, and practices for fall season start the second week of July. In many areas of the country, softball is serious. The girls who are serious about their sport watch the college games for inspiration. I watched the Women's World Series with my daughter and pointed out good plays (and poor ones!) and explained that the women playing worked very hard to achieve their level of proficiency. On the flip side of that, there are only two ice rinks in the entire state, so there isn't a large interest in hockey here. I'm sure it is a fine game, but if there isn't any interest at the local level it is probably hard to promote the professional level games.

The lack of response to this question should give you some indication as to the popularity of hockey in America.

I can't believe you even asked that question, comparing hockey with softball. How silly, you would have a better chance asking if people thought that Softball was more popular than Baseball.
