depends if it is manual or automatic. If automatic then it could be the torque converter as someone els has said. If manual then perhaps the clutch is on the way out and the smell coudl be the clutch burning out

I agree with many of the others.
If its got a manual gearbox, the clutch is slipping - it either needs adjusting, or the springs that keep it engaged have failed and need replacing.
If its been happening for a while then you've probably worn the clutch material so much that it needs to be replaced even if the original problem was only it being out of adjustment.
If its got an automatic gearbox, then there's a problem with that - probably the torque convertor. Get it checked out by a specialist.

Topping the oil up is unlikey to have brought about the faults you describe. The sensor that tells the ecu the engine velocity is defective and the administration gentle is drawing close per this - while you're actually not a DIY smart motorist you will could desire to get a storage to restoration it

Assuming you've a manual gear-change, then your clutch is very close to failing.
Fairly easily fixed (for a price), and if you're pretty good with the toolbox, it can be done at home for a very low price. Not a job for amateurs though.....
If it's an automatic, then I would agree with the others - torque converter. (No idea how easy that is to fix, only ever drive manual)
Good luck

Oil smell sounds like an oil leak. But the reving sounds like a torque converter problem or perhaps a transmission problem.

The clutch for the locking torque converter is slipping. You might be able to take it out of OD to prevent locking, but it will need replaced ASAP.

It's a bad torque converter. Take it to your local Transmission Shop and they'll tell you more detailed info about it.
