Food, water, MANUAL can opener (very important if the power is out) gasoline (if you have a generator) gas up your car, cash (ATMs won't work if there is no power) car adapter for cell phone, place important papers in a waterproof Ziploc bag (insurance policies, birth certificates, prescriptions) diapers (if you have small children or infants) ammo (if you own a gun - better safe than sorry) batteries (for flashlights and radios) bug repellent (mosquitoes LOVE standing water) a couple of heavy duty tarps and duct tape (good for quickie repairs) plywood (for boarding up windows) hammer, nails, screwdrivers, saw, propane (if you have a gas grill) - that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I've lived in hurricane alley for almost 20 years and it seems like every year I forget something, but this is a good starter list. Good luck!! (and add first aid kit to the above list)
