i think you made an arithmetic error in the first step.
start with: |5x - 3| + 8 = 22
then subtract 8 from both sides, and you will get
|5x-3| +8 - 8 = 22 - 8
|5x-3| = 14
and not |5x - 3| = 24
from there:
|5x-3| = 14
5x-3 = 14 or 5x-3= -14
5x-3+3=14+3 or 5x-3+3= -14+3
5x = 17 or 5x = -11
x = 17/5 or -11/5

rudeboi almost has it.... he has the correct answers ( not reduced) but his method is slightly off.
I5x-3I +8=22
first get everything except the absolute value portion on one side of the equal sign... and make a check for the definition of absolute value
so...
I5x-3I +8 = 22
(subtract 8 from both sides)
I5x-3I +8 -8 = 22 -8
I5x-3I = 14 now you check to make sure that the abs value does equal a positive number. if this had been I5x-3I = -14 then there is NO SOLUTION... but we are OK...
OK now you remove the absolute value symbols and set that portion equal to both a positive and a negative value.
like so...
5x-3 =14 OR 5x-3 = -14
solve each equation
5x-3 =14
5x-3 +3 = 14 +3
5x = 17
x=17/5 = 3 2/5
OR
5x-3 = -14
5x-3 +3 = -14 +3
5x= -11
x= -11/5 = -2 1/5
so you have two answers x= 3 2/5 and x= -2 1/5

Where did you get the 24?
It should be
|5x-3| + 8 = 22
|5x-3| = 22 - 8
|5x-3| = 14
so either
5x - 3 = 14 ==> 5x = 17 ==> x = 17/5
or
5x-3 = -14 ==> 5x = -11 ==> x = -11/5

[5x-3] + 8 = 22
= 5x-3 + 8 = 22
= 5x + 5 = 22
= 5x+5 -5 = 22 - 5
5x=17
5x/5 = 17/5
x= 17/5 or x = 3 2/5 remeber PEMDAS

ok, (: it is what i'm did final yearrr . soo we could take the 1st one for example, 9(a+b) + 4(3a+2b) the 1st situation you're able to desire to do is distribute the 9, to try this you diverse the 9 by utilising a abd b. the equation is now : 9a+9b+4(3a+2b) next, you distribut the 4. to try this you multiply 4 by utilising 3a and 2b. 9a+9b+12a+8b now you simplify like words! like words are those with an identical variables. so ninety one and 12 a are lkike words, to boot as 9b and 8b. your very final answer would be : 21a+17b listed below are the stairs to the 2nd : 8(ok+m) + 15(2k+5m) 8k+8m+15(2k+5m) 8k+8m+30k+75m 38k+83m i will additionally teach you the stairs to between the harder ones - 4(5x+3y+6)+14(2y-one million) 20x+12y+24+28y-14 20x+40y+10 solid success, (: wish i helped you!
