In a word: NO
I think your friend's story of a man having an accident the day after he stopped drinking is pure coincidence. Alcoholic problems are usually described in the sense when drinking effects (poorly) other areas of your life. So if you are talking about drinking in excess before you go to sleep and likely suffering a hang over or having not enough real sleep, it will likely make it very difficult to perform your job the next day.
Studies have shown that drinking a glass of wine a day keeps the doctor away.

Drinking alcohol before bed has no benefits. That story had to have been made up or the guy wasn't trying hard enough to lift up whatever. My brother died from a drunk driver. My mom is an alcoholic. My grandpa died from alcohol poisoning. Why can't they just take alcohol off the markets? They are hurting people and it is causing diseases(alcoholism). The healthiest thing you can do regarding alcohol is to not drink it.

well its not like he depended on the alcohol like to "get away" from reality, what its normally used for when you think about an alcoholic i guess. also, i dont think that lifting something heavy up the stairs is a good example. plus, what if what he was carrying up the stairs was heavier than what he carries at his job?? i personally dont think your classmates story was very ligitimate... but im not a doctor so idk...

Daily consumption of alcohol has detrimental effects on your liver, kidneys and brain as well as long term effects on your heart but they don't put atrial fibrillation on the bottle like they do with lung cancer and smoking. Best not to drink and, if you do, do it only occasionally and not to excess.

two cups of wine a night doesn't make one an alcoholic...he's a "social drinker" and wine does have benifits, though I have never heard of it used like this before.
