How to Make a picot.
1. Complete starter stitch as designated in pattern.
2. Chain 3 (or 5) depending on your preference.
3. Slip stitch in first chain.
4. Continue pattern sequence till next picot.
5. Repeat from step #2.

A picot is just that lacy edging around the outside of your doily. To make it, take one stitch, then ch. 3, and lock into the next stitch, ch. another 3, lock in, all the way around the doily, and you'll end up with a ruffled edge around it.
