It's because of text messaging, and im and email. Most people are very casual with these forms of communication so it becomes more common to see these mistakes. It really annoys me, especially when I can't understand what someone typed because the spelling is so bad.

I'm inclined to think that it is poor parenting, no parenting, and society before I would say it's the schools fault. They have an obligation to make sure that the curriculum embodies spelling but it should be important in the home and job as well. I worked with a guy who could not spell "ask" before he ran into me.

No, definitely not. I have learned a lot of useless stuff about grammar, but never not enough. I also believe it's just whether or not the kids who learn about grammar are smart enough to apply it to their everyday lives.

If you are cute, fine, nice, polite, who needs to know how to read or write? Teachers are failing our students based on these areas and it's not helping.
Don't believe the hype young people, it is important, pay attention and learn the essentials!!!

YES! omg! at my school, we NEVER EVER EVER learned grammer! spelling...yea so so. Teachers would just mark it wrong. but grammer...not so much. It is a thing of the past

no its the kids that dont want to listen to their teacher and want to be 'different'
they cant really be be 'ifferent' if everyone else is 'different' like them
some kind of rebellion fad
