Nope. We just invented ways of measuring it.

Time was invented by God. Humans just invented ways to keep track of it. No, time would not stop if humans didn't exist.

Scott Addams mentioned that there was a study done that says that when a human is exposed to a stimuli (piching), the mind has not even registered the event yet, it just reacts and then rationalizes and creates an order for what happened later. Addams theorized that we did the same thing for "time", just rationalized the events. So he believes time is just a bunch of still life images happening at such a fast rate, they run together like a cartoon. If humans weren't around, these still images would still be around, but probably wouldn't be rationalized as much as we do it.

With the word time having many definitions this question is a bit difficult to accurately answer. Yes, humans invented the "concept" of time.....I doubt the dinosaurs really cared much about it (LOL) ..but mainly how to measure and keep track of it passing. And no, it would not stop if we did not exist, but merely the knowledge of it passing and the measuring of it.

Yes we did. Time is an organizational system to understand the changes observed. What the modern 'physicists' argue 'time' is, is actually the expression of differential force/matter change. as all force and matter interact, they affect each other and create the ability to change the changes. Time itself cannot stop per se since it does not exist in the first place. If humans didn't exist, the rational observations of temporal events would cease. The changes within the universe would continue.

Think on this....... time existed before you got here, so it must not be dependent on human existence. We[humans] don't control when the sun rises or sets, so no we didn't invent time.

Time is technically considered to be started right after the Big bang took place. Time is usually a finite variable in time-space theory because of the Big Bang theory. Humanbeings werent there at the genisis or say during the Big Bang , so we could not have invented it. So techinically if humanbeings werent there time wouldnt really stop.

shooda487 has one of the few halfway decent answers here...

"time", as i think you mean it, is a human abstract concept that we created to help simplify what we perceive as rules of cause and effect and motion...

there is no official scoreboard somewhere that tells what really exists and what doesn't or even if that's a viable question...

if there were no humans, then the human concept of time would not exist...

now, are there scientific laws that dictate that motion, mass matter, and time exist and exist in the way that we now understand them, and exist in that state completely independently of us? and that can be proved? and if there were these laws, are they infallible?

you say yes, i say no,
you say stop, and i say go go go

can i prove it? no, and neither can you...

um, what was the question?

Humans did not invent time...only the measure of it.

Humans did not invent time, we just found a way to measure it.

no, and to say time is eternal is foolish for that means that it has been around forever and yet we percive time and all things affected by time to come after the big bang. and i dont belive anyone here can attest that the universe was affected by time (the concepet, not an invention) before the big bang. also as an atheist i dont think anyone or anything (including "god")created time, time cannot be created or stopped it just is.
