First find out who you are... the easiest way is to think about how you use your computer...
if you are a computer whiz i'd suggest a high end cell phone $300+ with a plan with 1000 minutes and free internet

if you are a bussiness person who needs to stay up to date i'd suggest a blackberry with a high minutes and messages plan

if you are a teenage girl who wants to stay in touch with her friends i'd suggest a razr or a flip phone with a plan with many minutes and free text messaging

if you do not fit into any of these catagories and do not want to text, call, or email your friends i'd suggest a $30 or less cell phone and a basic plan (a prepaid cellphone would also work)

finally you will need to talk with your friends/coworkers and see what network they are on and how well their networks are, then pick the best one (most networks offer free calling within the network so asking around is a good idea)

I mentally listed what features I absolutely had to have on my phone. I then decided what features that I absolutely wasn't willing to pay extra for, not only in the cost of the phone, but if there were any associated costs with the feature to use it. I also committed to a top price that I would pay before I was ready to buy a phone/service. After I did all that, and went around to 3 or 4 cellular service providers, I decided that it would be more beneficial to me to NOT sign a contract for 2-3 years. The per-minute charges for calls are just as cheap, and I also get free national calling. My free anytime minutes are the same as with a contract plan. The difference is that I didn't get a fully loaded cell phone with camera, speakerphone, etc. I can text message, I can download some items, but I can't download certain ringtones or pictures because high quality photos won't show up up my screen....but I get great graphics and pictures that aren't photo quality. The sound is incredible, very few dropped calls, the phone is all of 4 ozs. so it is very light in my purse, and, if I decide I don't like my current carrier, I can stop my service at any time without any penalties. My phone also has a chip or small card in it...so I can control the content of my memory and take it with me to my new service. Oh....and my phone cost me less than $50...my monthly service is also less than $50 with 500 minutes.

Personally I had to research the cell phones, did I really need a mp3 player on my cell phone? I looked for the necessities and what I really did need on a cell phone. For example, I felt I needed 3 way calling, so I looked for a cell phone with 3 way calling that was at a resonable price and went well with my family plan.

well i purchased a blackberry because I wanted full email capabilities, I'm and a telephone. My old phone did all that but it was not the best. It just had basic emails and such. However, there are things that I did not know about the Blackberry when I purchased it that I don't like such as it does not have ring tones. So if looking for a new phone I would compare to what you have now to what you really like. There will always be something that you may have to give up when getting a new phone but sometimes its worth it

I just chose which was cheap but, had some nice features and you have to remember having the highest tech phone doesn't necessarily mean it is the best because you may have a phone with a camera and all sorts of other features but, that don't mean it will do all of those things really good. Normally a phone will do one thing better then the other thing.

I chose a RAZR because it was the next best thing to a Treo that I could afford until I save up.

As far as making your own decision, figure out which features are important to you, which carrier you want to go with, then do your research online. Decide the price range you can afford and that will narrow down the selections for you. Some websites allow you to compare phones with their features side-by-side, which can be a helpful tool in decision-making.

I started by asking friends about their service providers and decided on Sprint Nextel because they have great coverage in Kansas City metro area. I think it is most important to pick your service provider first because you will have to commit to using them for at least one year, if not two. If you find out a few months into the agreement that you're not happy with the service you're stuck unless you want to pay a hefty fee to terminate with them when you port the number to another service provider.

Then I looked at the phones on the Sprint website www.Sprint.com. I prioritized which features are most important to me - quick connection, clear calls, integrated voice mail, etc. and chose a phone that had those features and was the style and size I wanted, that fit in my budget.

I'm the kind of person who is just plain and simple. All I want to use a phone for is to call people. I don't want all these fancy gadgets and different options. So i look for the simpleness. Plus I look at the price. I'm not willing to bust my pocket on a cell phone.

well first of all i listed all the features that i wanted in a cell phone, you must remember that a cell phone is'nt an asset its a liability,so dnt invest too much in it...........what features do u use most frequently...?if u want to only recieve n do calls,n text.go for a simpler phone like, nokia 1110..if u want hi fi gadgets n stuff, the moto razr is really in,i ive read alot of reveiws on it being very convinient n all.but as i said dnt invest too much, coz hwta ever the additional features u grow bored of them and at one point even stop using them,i say this from personal exp,coz in todays world u dnt hae time really to stop n play wid ur cell, when the world is moving at such a pace........
