That is a very good question. My guess in general, because American Youth is uninspired, lazy, unoriginal and so desperate to fit in that they cant think or feel for themselves. Hip Hop was great back in the day…days.. many many many many days ago. I think the term the 'kids' like to throw around now is "old school". But I think it’s like a lot of music out there that starts out pure and good and ends up going from T-Rex to Motley Crue.

I have several friends who like the stuff and there is nothing wrong with them..well, there is definitely something wrong with a few of them but that’s another topic for another day.

I fear it’s here to stay and as long as I don’t have to be subjected to it, let the lambs have their muzak. Problem with that is, all the clubs are playing it. I don’t know if DJ’s now feel obligated to play it or if they to have lost all their originality as well.

I believe because Hip-Hop has it's own cultural vision that many can relate to. Our cultural vision is our hoods. We see it everyday, we live in it everyday. Well most of us. But most of us are the blacks in these types of communities that speak this way of living mostly in rap music. Hip-hop has had many changes in a lot of us whether it is negative or positive. But the only reason it's so popular in America is because we're directing it to those that call themselves great Americans that put us in these communities and situations to suffer. But that changed around in a very shocking way. Because we've made a lot of changes and we're proving that we can be as great as any American and more. More and more of their people will listen and follow us. Whether they like it or not.

I dont think its hip hop thats popular i think its rap thats popular. The diference in hip hop and rap is that rap is to make a quick buck at the risk of selling your sole to the highest bidder. Hip hop is the true embrace of a culture. Artists like Kweli and mos def, and many more. But other artists like Francize Boys and everybody else you see on mtv and bet do it JUST to make money. Tv also plays a large part in this brainwashing of our youth.

it is popular because the intelligence level in america has gone down. No rochelle, your people were not put into those places and situations by anyone but themselves. so stop with the holding us down crap. The media pushes the whole black society into everyones faces because 200 something years ago their ancestors were slaves and we are going to have to pay for the next million years. So to kiss *** we have to pretend that their music is cool and their ebonics is cool and don't forget the stupid pants that sag to the ground. I am sick, sick, sick of it. Whoever said that they are living the american dream is a gigantic dumbass. Having gold teeth , no sence of style and more money then brains (obviously) is not my idea of a great dream. They should give them iq tests before they allow them to have money. And what the hell does foshizzle my nizzle mean anyway?

Hip-Hop, and it's petty cousin Rap, are **not** popular is America or anywhere else, except maybe Kenya. The sales figures are inflated, and the "bands" are make believe. It is pathetic trash!

Half of america is ran by CHILDREN and the record producers know this, so needless to say, they will send out as much hip and hop as possible to make sales.

hip hop is so popular now because, well, look at these rappers and stuff in their videos. They have money, cars, girls, and fame. Everybody's dream. And people think that maybe if they listen to it, maybe they will get these things.

the reason i think its becoming so popular is because usually in rap people speak their hearts out and also the facts of life. people these days dont have the time to stop and realise whats goin on in their life and how they can resolve it. so these songs are like an inspiration to find out ways or just boost their morale! plus some of them get their frustration out through these songs.
