I read Ghost Girl by Torey Hayden. I read it in a day, liked it very much. I love Torey Hayden's books in truth. If unfamiliar, they're the same genre as A child called it by Dave Pelzer. Torey is a teacher who works with disturbed children and specialises in elective mutism. She writes of her experiences, and her books are gripping emotional journeys. Her other books include One Child, The Tiger's Child, and The Twighlight children, all fascinating reads.

I finally broke down and read The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. Everyone in my family had read it, the movie came out, and of course, it's been really controversial in the news and among reviewers and Christian groups.
I'd have to say it's quite a page-turner. I enjoyed it, although I did wonder a bit at the state of bone-chilling suspense that the main characters always seem to be in! Are real people like that? I am not sure, but the situation was anything but normal for them, so perhaps that explains it. The book is well researched, albeit loosely based on actual fact, something that many people tend to forget. If you're curious about it, now is a good time to read it as it has been released in paperback.

Am currently reading "Andersonville" by McKinley Kantor. Its about people living in and near Andersonville prison ( for POW's) during the Civil War. Much more serious and not at all light reading, unlike "Gone With the Wind." I don't know if I would say that I "like" it, but its based on fact, is very interesting, and won the Pulitzer Prize. I did not realize how truly terrible the prison condition were there. As in any true to life situation and any good novel, the author depicts both the best and the worst in people.

I just finished Blind Courage by Bill Irwin. It was about a blind man and his dog hiking the Appalachian Trail. Incredible story of preserverence and dedication. Well written and less preachy than I thought it would be. And, yes, I really liked it and plan to reread in the next week or so.

I just finished reading CELL by Stephen King. It was good but not as good as others he has written. I presently am reading two books: CREEPERS by David Morrell (very scary) and STAND FOR SOMETHING The Battle for America's Soul by John Kasich.
