I ask this question because my class was having a discussion about slavery times and how the lighter toned people were treated better than dark toned people. I just want to know your views on that, PLEASE.

I once talked to a man from Pakistan and he told me that lighter skinned people are considered better and more beautiful than darker toned. So it's not just a "black" issue.

Well, it's probably true that lighter skinned people were treated better in the past, but that's because of racism. It also had to do with class. People who could stay indoors all day were lighter skinned and wealthier, but the ones working on the fields were poorer, like farmers.

These days this doesn't really apply anymore and anyone who thinks differently is probably racist.

Isn't everyone always trying to get a tan now anyway?

In the days of slavery... the blackman was actually inferior to the white man.. whites decieved blacks and lied to them, tortured and drug them half way across the world.

During slave trading days... whites and light-skinned tone were believed to be the best because it was more "acceptable", that is the image that the white race wanted to produce. See they had to make everyone believe that the "white" race was better and was the only way, they would do this by dominantating and povertize blacks, to make everyone think.. oh we are better then them.. and in all actuality..... ...

In Africa blacks were Kings and Queens, (ancient rulers of Egypt they are the orignal people,) until they were forcible taken from there homes and MADE into slaves. Even today it is more acceptable to be light-skinned than dark-skinned, beacuse that is the continued lasting image of a country built on slavery

I do not believe that lighter tone people are better than darker tone people (we're all equal in my book), but what you were learning in class is somewhat true...i think you should specify "lighter tone" and "darker tone" so people can understand exactly what you're talking about.

I think the practice of placing value on color tones is definitely a result from slavery. Also, colorism has been affecting all people in a variety of ways, from self-hatred to self-affirmation at the expense of other skin tones.I dont believe that a specific color tone of people are better than a different one.

I don't think inteligent people think that.
But they were treated better in the South in the recent past.
I saw it and, in some places, it exists today.

Sorry, it is not right but it is the truth.

MSBoyd seems to be making her own history. What a goof ball! There is no shame in being any color but you don't have to reinvent history. This is the lesbian woman that thinks all men are crazy so I really think that she should be more sensitive to issues like this.

Black, Dark and White people are all the same with common interests. One who say we are better than others, has a Fascist Idea.
Cheers.

i imagine all dermis tones are particularly, yet I accept as true with distinctive the individuals right here that a mild brown dermis tone is amazingly captivating. It makes you seem better unique and heat, if it quite is wise...

i am not in any way racist against any one who looks different on the outside. i think that racist people seriously need to think about that. i also very much respect that you used the words loghter toned and darker toned than black and white. i, admittedly say black and white, but i respect you, stranger, for that.
