Become friends first. If he's in a class with you, casually mention that you could help him with Trig homework. Say hi to him in the hall, and make sure he sees you. The next step is to ask him. Say, "Hey ___, what's up?" Talk for a bit, and then say, "So, the dance is this Friday, and if you're not going with anyone, I thought maybe you and I could go together."
If he says yes, great! Have a fab time!
If he says no, so what? There are PLENTY of other guys. Plus, it's not rejection, it doesn't mean that he hates you or something. If you like him, try to keep building up a friendship. And don't sweat it. If you don't have a date, you and your friends will still have a blast! Hope you have fun!

Just go for it!! Pass him a note or talk to him(when he is by himself) but make it casual so he won't feel like you are putting him on the spot. Something like Hey have you heard about the dance ____ ? Would you like to go with me? Quick and to the point but still nice!!! And if you need practice ask a friend you trust to pretend that its tomy and practice what you are going to say.

I think you should go for it. Be confident. And if you get turned down don't be upset. There are lots of guys out there. And also the latest news in the world today is "it is cool to be single!" Good luck! remember If you want something bad enough you can get it. Just put your mind to it.

just go up to him and say if u dont have a date to the dance i was wondering if u wanted to go with me or if u and him have my space send him an e-mail and make him guess and two days before the dance e-mail him and tell him to meet u some were then if he says yes then when he goes to meet u say i was wondering if u want to go to the dance with me
