South Padre Island is part of the National Coastline in Texas. It's just beautiful...I was there in the 90s. Because it's protected as part of the National Coastline, it is very clean and safe.
Also, it's right next to the Mexican border at Brownsville. A day trip into Old Mexico is a lot of fun, too.
There are a lot of hotels and resorts right on the beach, which should offer water sports, fishing, snorkeling and more.
Have fun...and don't forget the sunscreen.

I was there this time last year. I moved and lived in Corpus Christi for a few months. Just to check things out. I heard they outlawed driving a vehicle on the beach a few months ago. I was able to drive my jeep on the beach when I was there - it was fun.

I was there in the seventies. Seafood and sharks.
Use a lot of sun block....the beach is very reflective .... even if you are used to sun exposure it'll get you. Ah, Texas beaches. Keep drinking water around too. Google it for current restaurants and clubs.

i am a native to the RGV and have been to SPI many times, if you are driving down beware of driving thru los fresnos (little town right before entering port isabel).... drive the speed limit!!! the cops love to give tickets there and aren't gonna let you get away with a warning.
