Our business ships out many reports. I have always been amazed at how much an empty binder cost. Why Why Why ? See:

It may depend on the brand and quality of the materials (and workmanship). Your company may want to present a good impression to those it is sent to.

At office supply houses, a 1" (3 ring) binder might be 99-cents as a special. But the "good" quality 1" (3 ring) binders are between $6 and $8. I've seen this -- so I assume it is true of the 5".

[EDIT] A general answer is "everything's expensive". Even the cheap notebook I just discussed -- for the quality it is -- is expensive. If one wants a "quality" notebook, he has to pay through the roof (and it still may be overpriced for the quality it is). .... Life is just too darned expensive...

[EDIT] Sometimes, whoever is ordering just pulls an item out of a catalog he/she has and doesn't "shop around". Or, maybe Staples is the only account the company has a business account set up with. Ask your boss(es) if another less-expensive binder will do if it the same quality. Then, shop around. Bring him/them samples and prices** -- and the applications/info for business accounts. Maybe you'll be a hero!

Peace.

** You can return the rejected binders. (Keep the receipts.)

I KNOW! I can't figure it out either. They are ridiculously priced. I guess they know we have to have them so they can get away with over pricing them, just like the fuel situation. It makes me sick.
