I understand the need to know the areas where there are sex offenders in order to protect your children, but I wish the reports would also instruct the public to leave the person alone when they find out where they are. My son was convicted of a sexual offense and served his time in prison. Now, he is out, in continued counseling and trying very hard to make a life for himself and his wife and child. Websites that give this information are causing employers to deny jobs to men who have already been punished and just want to go on with a quiet life. EXCEPTION - If the man is a repeat offender, then I feel we should all be doing as much as we can to protect children from becoming future victims.

The way I found it is to go to the Office of the Attorney General for the state of California. It has an opption for sex offenders. It has a section that allows you to put in a certain area and all of the sex offenders in that area pop up. I think that using the zip code is the best opption and it even shows the addresses and photos of them. Kind of scarey , but al least we are aware of them being in our surrounding areas.

Go to meghan'slaw.com there is a link there to find the sex offender registry in your town. I think there should be a national database that everyone has access to. There is a school in my area that sends out flyers when a registered sex offender moves into the school district. If they were put in jail longer for their offences we would be better off so would our children.

During this past halloween the news said to type in the name of your state (example Tennessee sex offenders list) then type in the zip code of the area you are looking. The news stations each have web sites full of information on crime along with past offenses and info of other web sites depending on your area.

There is a website. In OH realtors or landlords must disclose the information. Some schools will also inform you of offenders in your area. I know someone I know was told when he registered his child. Now, he can get out of a bad lease because they withheld and misrepresented this information to both he and the realtor.

The quickest way to find a local website that has the information is by doing a google search: go to http://www.google.com
then type in the city and state your interested in finding the information on and then type sex registry...for example, if you were wondering about Miami, FL, type in: Miami Florida Sex Registry and the local site should pop up as a choice.

type in your state followed by corrections, it will then ask for you where you want to go, check on inmates in the system, sex offenders and then ask for your zip. If your city has more then one try them all unless you are looking for some one special

Go to Family Watchdog on the Internet. I don't know how to track the exact crime, it should be a matter of public record
