My mother bought me all kinds of barbies, I had spanish barbies, black, white...all of the above... i thought nothing of it at the time, but now i look back and appreciate her not wanting me to just have all black barbies... might be a silly question, but i was just curous how many other mothers and fathers thought the same way my mom did. She is broad minded and wants you to grow into a global thinker. That's really cool and I'll do that too!

Well I was young I only had black Barbies & Baby Dolls.

The reason behind for my mom was that I was a black child so my baby should look like me. No I did not know the difference and if someone else gave me a white baby doll I played with it all the same.

Now that I am adult I choose to buy my neices dolls of color as well. But one like Dora, and Strawberry short cake she does not now Black or White so if she wants a doll that is white I don't care...I guess force of habit.

nicely that's unhappy on your daughter to experience that way,yet Barbie has continuously been portrayed as blonde, and white...i imagine that there should be Barbies from distinct backgrounds and skincolor, because for a 5yr previous to word this, that's of route a difficulty...besides the indisputable fact that the component is there are black barbies, they only arent in the films...tell her barbie likes all epidermis colorings and doubtless attempt getting her a Bratz movie because they provide more desirable range

Well..honestly, I don't think I would. I mean, not consciously though. I would just pick up the same color of my skin doll. There is nothing wrong with getting all different races, but I don't think I would. Now that I think about it, when I'm a mother, I should buy a variety. Thanks for the advice. Haha! I never really thought about this before.

Yes I would and have. My daughter is 14 now and doesn't play with dolls anymore. But she still has her collection of all kinds. My mother hand made dolls and she made me a black baby doll and it was my favorite of all. I still have it today.. and I'm white. my mother raised me to respect all people and I in turn passed that along to my daughter. Its funny how something so simple as a doll can let your child know that all people are equal and deserve respect.

I wasn't really a doll girl...I had only two that I can remember. One doll was white, the other was black. I didn't think anything about it at the time, but I remember the adults being amazed that I had a black doll. I am white if you hadn't already guessed.

sure, kids see all kinds of people in life, so why would you give them barbies of just their race, that is a good way to promote not being racist. we are all the same, we are all different
