They are very well built and reliable nowadays and have a different look than the japanese bikes.they can't compete with jap bikes in top end but their handling and braking far surpasses anything made in japan and is at least as good as the ducati for a lot less money .

Buell makes excellent bikes, with the exception of the Blast. I owned a 2001, and after the oil leaks, hard 1st gear downshift, and lack of power, it left much to be desired. The 65-75 mpg made much of those worries disappear, however. As for the larger buells, handling is a dream. Even on my blast, I could lay it down in the turns until the footpegs would almost scrape, and it would never miss a beat. Braking was also extremely well-balanced to the weight of the bike. My personal opinion is that they make a real ugly "naked" bike, but the road-course handling and fuel mileage more than make up for the cosmetic problems. Bottom line is......if you like it.....get it:)

First I have to admit that I know nothing about them whatsoever. So this is just my opinion.
I suspect the only reason someone would buy one is because they're a jingoist and want an "American-made" bike. I can't see any other reason....literally! Can't hear one either....I think the best I could come up with is that they look a bit like Ducati's.
Except perhaps for the smaller ones; those of us who are short/petite but want a sport bike may be limited to a smaller bike initially, and I think Buell makes one.

I ride motocross and so naturally I like to go fast as possible so I have ridden most crotch rockets and at first I was sqeamish about the sportability of the buell untill I rode a freind of mines firebolt they are wheely kings and if you want power from 0 to 135 they are the bike for you and although I rode that firebolt for all it had and never topped 140 it was just as powerful or more than any crotch rocket

The newer models are pretty nice. Like the XB9 and especially the XB12. Loads of bottom end torque though. Beware in the turns while gassing it!!
As for the Buell Blasts....Complete garbage.

I hate to trash a particular make, but Buell's are garbage. Especially the Blast. Stay away from them if you can. They are the cheap version of Harley.

They handle great, but the motor is not much. I don't know why H-D didn't let Porsche design a motor for Buell, instead of that ugly V-Rod.

I love mine.
If you go into the site, (buell.com) you can customize and find out all the info you need.
If and when you're ready to buy, they have riding/education classes that prep you on everything.
I love my buell....and don't ever tell you that girls can't ride..I got that alot when I first started riding. Ride for you own joy.

Still not in the same league with the Japanese but getting there. Nice American alternative to the usual rice burner.
They are very quick and powerful. Seem durable too.
