Is it very hard to learn how to bellydance? It looks like something you have to be born with natural talent to do.

It is as hard to master bellydance as any other dance form. It requires precise control of specific muscles and muscle groups, sometimes different ones at different speeds or tempos at the same time; it takes incredible muscle isolation; you have to have rhythm; and have some experience in rhythm identification. Bellydance is not simply shaking your *** all over the place. There are different styles and emotions, stage presence is extremely important as well as body awarness and feminine grace. These things can certainly be learned but inert talent definitely helps, It is extremely rare that a dancer is so naturally talented in every aspect of this complex dance form, for example, I happen to be very gifted in the rhythm department but spent years working on stage presence. The unfortunate fact is that there is no standardized certification process, so many many dancers take classes for a year or two and call themselves professionals. They give those of us who take this art form seriously and respect it a bad name. I encourage you to take some classes with a few different instructors. You will see and appreciate the difficulty in this wonderful dance form.

Bellydance is not hard to learn. Most basic moves can be mastered by anyone and very quickly. More advanced moves can take years to master. Even one with no muscle control can eventually learn to roll their bellies with the best of 'em. Regardless, it's loads of fun, a chance to socialize with other women in your community, a chance to share your love of dance, and wonderful excersize to boot. Don't let preconcieved notions about this ancient dance hold you back from a wonderful experience. Sign up today, you won't regret it. One word to the wise...pick your instructor carefully. Know their credentials.....
