Very easy.

(height X width X length) all in inches. That will give you cubic inches. Then on Yahoo! Search type convert X cubic inches to gallons, and you will have the answer in a shortcut on the top of the search resutls.

Example (12 X 24 X 36) = 10368 cubic inches

Then do a search on Yahoo! for "convert 10368 cubic inches to gallons"

The answer is displayed at the top- 44 gallons.

Hope this helps!

I have an excel spread sheet that will calculate that for you. Along with some other inputs it will calculate wattage of heat, how much substrate, how much light, weight of aquarium, when all done. This was done for a marine aquarium but will help some with fresh water. Contact me via email if you would like to have a copy.

It's very simple, if your tank is 10 inches wide, you have a ten gallon tank, 20 inches 20 gallons. Or just go to a pet store find the same tank size you have and there you go.

Measure the length, width and breadth of the tank and then multiply them all together. This will give you the cubed footage/metreage of the tank.
