Anyone remember books about a man and woman that fall in love, but the live in different times?

They were a set of beautiful books. From what I remember, they came in threes. They were written in epistlary form. I want to buy them for a friend. can anyone help me?

The books consisted of postcards and letters between the two main characters. I'm not so sure if it was entirely a different time, but they were beautiful books
