I'm enrolled, and supposed to be starting in the fall. I just visited, and was shocked to see that the place is really run-down. For an international center, it's kind of cruddy. If anyone has any experiences, or could hook me up with the info of someone who has, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm just wondering if I'm just getting ripped off, or if I'm overreacting. THANKS!

Go with you gut instinct. I knew someone who went years ago. While she enjoyed it she felt that she didn't learn as much as she thought she would. If the place is in that bad of shape I would seriously consider another school. Sounds like you have little warning bells going off in your head. I always listen to these and have never been wrong.

I went to Black Hawk East's horse program in IL but looked at Meridith Manor before going. When it came judging contest time we were 3rd - MM was 27th. I was glad I chose to go to BHE.

However I do know that there is someone big in Quarter horses who went to MM - they owned the late Dynamic Deluxe. That's been some years ago. I know for sure they did - I'm not aware of others but it doesn't mean they aren't out there. I would think MM would be able to tell you big names who graduated from their program.

For others looking for a college - consider BHE in IL - they have a consistent winning judging team, a show horse team, 70some stalls less than 15 years old and an almost new million $ arena with labs in the barns - a whole complex for *ag*. The horse program is good - you can bring your horse (there's a few school owned horses but many bring their own horse). With that, there's hands on running large barns as all the work is done by students. For those who don't want to do the work end you won't like it but without the work end chances of long term success in the horse industry isn't high anyway.
Nothing against MM - I just know I was on a judging team that had quite a few more points than theirs - and the school I went to has progressed to now having a barn and everything on site (not the case when I went there).

I went and visited and loved the instruction. I worked it out so i took 2 lessons while I was there. I also sat in on several classes and just wandered around the grounds.

My trainer was a MM Riding Master 6 grad (2001) and she was happy with her time spent there. She was already an accomplished rider when she went, but she felt like she learned alot.

I'm hoping to go next fall, please let me know how you like it!

I had a friend who went there, but that was 25 years ago. She was already an experienced horseman, and she went so that she could keep riding and go to school at the same time. She loved it. Maybe they are putting all of their funding into maintaining their horses.
