That same argument was used when everything was made in Japan many years ago. Now look at Japan today they are using cheap labor in other third world countries to feed their capitalist appetites. Part of capitalism true nature is some form of exploitation. There is never and even exchange between labor and what it cost to produce a product. I believe a country like ours do have some moral obligation to make sure that this component of capitalism is not excessive.
But in a free market system its up to what one is willing to work for in exchange for their labor. I figured if the Chinese didn't want to work for $50 a month they either would find another job or not work at all. I believe if Apple has knowledge that they are exploiting them in terms of paying lower than the prevailing wage for this type of work in China, then shame on them. By the way, I own an Ipod.

Huge profits, yes, but if you don't buy the products made by laborers, where will they get work? You must travel before you can judge. These countries need the industry. It is the governments that need straightened out. Most are corrupt and make big deals with the large companies and do not follow through with promises made to the people they govern. Unlike the US, the people have very little say in how the government controls their lives on a daily basis.

Let me raise a couple of points to try to answer this question. First of all, China is a Communist country. That means that a lot of things a provided for everyone free of charge. Therefore, living expenses are less compared to America. Also, $50 in US money currently is equal to 401.125 CHINESE YUAN. Who knows how much they can buy with that? Very likely that is a decent wage for their country. It may sound like a miniscule amount, but you have never purchased anything in China, so you don't know. The U.S. dollar goes pretty damn far in other countries.

ipods regularly you will discover in an apple save or massive shops which carry the apple sort globally. Im particular the have that throughout there. whether China made this sort, theyre regularly greater costly than US based ipods or singapore based apple. China is powerful in imitations so which you would be able to discover some less expensive copies there of ipods besides the undeniable fact that its very diverse. i think of he concern here lies on the taxes at artwork. a $70 ipod could desire to cost 10 to twenty funds greater in different international locations.

I traveled to China last November, and I love all the people there. I feel sad about the amount of money they are making, but me not buying an iPod would not elarge the amount they are getting paid. If EVERYONE stopped buying iPods, they would be making 0 dollars a month. I beleive us buying iPods is the thing allowing them to make ANY money.

i'm more concerned about people in this country who don't have a job because companies are importing this junk made by these people who work 6 mos for $50.00. Global economy means reducing the economy of the world to the lowest common denominator...so we're all equal...communism wins.

P.S. Many products imported from China don't have a labor cost at all because they are made by prison labor...who can compete with that?

I have apple stock so its profit for me too....and why should I pay more for an ipod?

I just assume that the Chinese are happy to work for slave wages...they only buy rice, fish and bamboo anyways...50 bucks a month should be plenty

It's their life, hard as it may seem. The Chinese have to work hard for ANY company they work for, it's their lifestyle. In fact, I heard from my teacher that the iPod parts they use in China cost less than a dollar, so you could literally get an iPod for 99 cents there!(if they would sell you one).

Does it honestly matter, they get paid right? Everybody has a diffrent amount for minumum wage and how many people work there. This is probably a really big buisness and have tons of people workin for them and how do expect them to come up with new ipods and every thing if they ended up giving them huge paychecks.

Unfortunately I have already bought two IPODs. But it this will be something I think about before I purchase anything else from Apple. At least they are getting paid something for working!
