No-
facism:
1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
I thinks its more-
imperialism:
1 : imperial government, authority, or system
2 : the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas; broadly : the extension or imposition of power, authority, or influence

I understand the professor's academic intentions, but any responsible thinker can see why his methodology is flawed and why, ultimately, his conclusions would be incorrect.
1) Analogy. In the study of comparative politics, comparing the 'characteristics' of states has been generally avoided. Usually these similarities can be attributed to attitudes that are common to all human beings, as well as the relatively similar goals of all states. Furthermore, states have so many 'characteristics' that they are bound to have some similarities to each other. The professor's claims would be, therefore, academically irresponsible due to bad scientific design.
2) Definition. By definition, a "fascist" is a person whose theory of the state flows from reactionary conservative ideals. As such, "fascism" is a political and ideological position, characterized by a certain attitude toward state authority, freedom, and other core concepts. It is defined by the thoughts and philosophy of leaders, not their actions, their institutions, or even their rhetoric. Because of this, it is vacuous to attempt to calculate a "fascist rating" from certain "characteristics."
The continued political dialogue, the relatively moderate political inclinations of the American public and its representatives, and the preservation of the concepts of freedom and individual liberty confirm that America is not, at this stage, a fascist state.

I had the same reaction as everybody innitially but then I actually read the 14 points and remembered the patriot act.... the religion thing too (I saw a definit rise in that lately) You know you may have a point there..
I think we are becoming reactionary I wouldn't call it fascist but yea, our country is surely not going the way we should hope it does, DO NOT LET PEOPLE STEAL ELECTIONS.. I personally am disgusted with the "democratic" policies. Look electoral college needs to be OUT in 2001!! The PAPER TRAIL MUST STAY! and lastly EXIT POLLING IS A REQUIRMENT IN DEMOCRACY. That is the 14th and to me most important point... as long as we have fair elections I'm not concerned.
