I'm not sure what you are trying to do. But, if you want to draw a pictures using various characters in ascii, find and printout a chart with decimal "escape" codes and a corresponding character. Generally, if you press the ALT key and the numeric escape code, the character should appear. You have 256 of them. For example the "é" is produced by holding down ALT and typing 130.

I think you're talking about Ascii Art. I would suggest searching for "ascii art" on the web.
Here's an example of a person made using ascii art:

Turn your head sideways (to the left) to see the person.
This is a very basic example of ascii art. Searching the web for "ascii art" will provide you with many (more complex) fascinating examples!

It's called "Character map".
Go to Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Character map. TA DA you are there.
