we have been engaged since Febuary and I love him so much...
but every time I bring up a date he acts all nervous. I am trying to be patient but I am ready to start our life together. By the way he has never been married before but has been in 2 long term relationships and he is in his early forties

Is there an underlying commentment issue? If he is in his early forties, been in 2 long-term relationships and refuses to set a date, I believe that he has some issues that need to be dealth with. Now, I am not a psycharist, but have known men like that before and they never get married. Be careful.

Tell him that you already booked a reception hall for the spring and wanted to know which date would be better for his family to attend.
If he is serious about getting married then he woun;t freak out since you are already engaged.

Maybe you should ask him if he still wants to get married to you since he is having a such a hard time setting a date...
