Death penalty. Why should the public support cop killers/rapist killers of children at $23K -$30K per year for the rest of their lives? They don't deserve to live.

Anyone who says death is the easy way out hasn't spent much time studying the subject. The death penalty takes years to carry out. During the time the prisoner has to do nothing but wait and contemplate his impending execution. This last for years. I wouldn't call that easy.

I know a prisoner who is serving life without parole. He committed his crime at the age of 16. He has never had a driver's license, a real girlfriend, a paycheck. a bill, an apartment, or a bedtime he designated for himself. He is now 31 years old and has nothing. He will never have a family or any legacy to leave behind. His life is a waste. He can never add to society or make any lasting contribution to try to make up for the error he made as a child. He has no hope of ever getting out, and every day is like the next.
Instead, he has built his dreams for a future INSIDE of the prison. He enjoys the social hierarchy and plays bocce ball, and works out. It is called becoming "institutionalized." Prison is not an unenjoyable state for him. It is his home. His family. He has opportunity to work, learn, read, or to commit crimes. He already has no parole, so why chose good behavior?
There are very few in his position that would tell you they'd rather have received Death. And those guys are either crazy or are victims in prison.
Death is more expensive than Life Without, but there are some people who are evil and should not get the opportunity to insight trouble in the prison for 40-60 years while they finish out their terms.
If you spend time getting to know prisoners, you'll learn that they all have tragic tales to tell. They all came from some injury to a place where they committed their crime. They are all tragic cases, and most of them can convince you that it wasn't their fault and that they should be given another chance. However, most humans have overcome obstacles and still do not make choices to end up in prison.
Prisoners have chosen to give up many of their freedoms. If their crimes are evil enough, we should terminate them.

Death Penalty

I will assume the crime warrants either of the penalties proposed - if I am on the jury I always vote for the death penalty - tax payers have a big enough burden and our prisons are overcrowded - I am also pro public hangings - let folks see that the authorities mean business when you break the law and the crime rate would drop I do believe - same principle as threatening a child with punishment and never following thru - the kid goes ahead and does what he wants - criminals are the same - knowing for sure that if caught and convicted you are a dead person might cause some to pause and think before commiting certain crimes -

I think life in prison would be worse than the death penalty. Also, how much do you think we pay to keep people on death row?

Life in prison...if you really think about it, the death penalty is the easy way out. Life is prison is more torture-like. Plus, I'm Christian so I'm not for the murder stuff.

Death penalty. This would alleviate the over crowding in the prisons.

Life in Prison is worser than death penalty. When they kill you , it takes only a second and you are gone... But with life imprisonment , you have to live the rest of your life inside the jail knowing that your friends outside are having fun while you are rotting in hell !

For what?

Personally I think Life in prison for severe crimes for several reasons a) If you're found to be innocent, you can be released from prison, but if you've been executed it's a pretty irreversible mistake,
b) Death is the easy way out. In prison you have to live with the guilt and consequences of your actions every day.

I believe in Life in Prison. Because, by backing the Dealth Penalty, we as citizens are committing murder also. You don't solve a problem with a problem. Plus they are finding that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment because they experience excruciating pain and then they die. (Murder) I thought God was the judge of life, not us. Forgiveness, not revenge!

Life in prison
1) If you sentence them to death for killing someone, arent you just doing the same thing?
2) Its cheaper than the death penalty.
