For one thing, I imagine that schools are worried that their students will tred into dangerous territory. There have been numerous instances of children going into chat rooms and later ending up in a dangerous situation, usually by meeting someone they met in a chat room face-to-face. So, to prevent such things from happening, schools block access to chat rooms from their computers.
I also agree with the answer previously given: class time is not play time.

At school they don't want you to get in trouble on chat rooms, and sometimes chat rooms could bring viruses. They also probably don't want you on those chat rooms so that you will pay attention instead of chatting the whole periods with friends or people you don't know.

Chat rooms can be dangerous and you don't know who you are talking to. It is the schools job to protect their students that is why they don't allow it. Also they would rather you do more educational and worthwhile activities with your time.

in case you're no longer sufficiently previous, you will desire to be VERY careful. you won't be able to see who you're speaking to on any instantaneous messenger software. purely because of the fact they inform you they are your age and stuff does no longer mean it rather is the reality. they could be a foul person with no longer super intentions. Play video games, examine, watch video clips, talk on your loved ones, talk over with God. yet be very careful once you're speaking to those that you do no longer probably understand.
