I will be off two college in to years can you tell me some towns that you would recommend. I was most interested in Tallahassee, Gainsville, Tampa and Jacksonville, although I have heard that Jacksonville and Tallahassee are rundown and there a lot of crime. Miami is a definite no for me.

What overall would you say the best colleges(education, enviroment, students, etc) are in Florida with equally nice surroundings?

Tampa has quite a bit to offer (though I'd recommend living in one of the suburbs if you can afford to do so). Good nightlife, good schools, etc.

Ultimately, however, much depends on where you want to go to school, what your major will be, and what you like to do for fun.

You may want to take a look at the State of Florida's education guide:

This may help you learn a bit more about the colleges in the areas you like.

Hope this helps!

Orlando has University of Central Florida - Crime is what it is crime it is in every city you will visit. Don't let it stop you from getting a quality education. My son is in Miami for the last 3yrs and has had no problems - despite the fact that the police presence on campus is quite visible they are there for your safety. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Not all the the cities in Florida are bad but Miami-Dade county has some EXCELLENT schools. Also you should try palm-beach and Hills-borough County there schools are great there. You can also try Jacksonville because it is beautiful there and the schools are excellent and are located to some the nicest communities and homes.

Hummmmm...Jacksonville is better than Gainesville - they have a lot of crime and gang issues so Gainesville is not what it used to be. Definetly stay out of Miami, good choice. Go for Tallahasse

There are two other hospitals that are beautiful...

Flagler College in St Augustine and Stetson in Deland Florida.

Both St Augustine and Deland are charming, small towns with lots of outdoor type recreational opportunites. I hope you like the water!

We went to Naples recently and fell in love with this coastal city. You have good shopping, boating, fishing ,beaches, everglades. and I guess it just depends on what your interests are. It's not a big party town.
