There are a lot of avenues. You can start by writing your reviews on Amazon, you can write to publishers and send them your reviews, start a blog, etc. You can ask your local newspaper if they need a reviewer and send in sample critiques. Apply with publishers to write book jacket blurbs.

Book reviewing for newpapers and magazines. Editing for publishers. Working as a librarian. While the first two require you to read as part of your job, the last offers the chance to read as a fringe benefit. To be a librarian, I think you need a degree in Library Sciences. For book reviewing and editing, it helps if you have a good degree in literature or journalism or a specific arts course like history or philosophy or political science.

In the back of some periodicals there are ads. In Popular Science they sometimes have an ad for getting paid to read books. I know a man who lives in Redwood City, California and that is all he does. He writes a brief synopsis of what he has read and how he liked or didn't like the book and he gets paid about $2500 p/month. You might want to check it out.

Contact your local state library and find out how you can read for the talking books for the blind. You are recorded as you read the book aloud. And the handicap check out the books on tapes. You'll be giving back as well as doing what you like to do.

if nothing else, just become a librarian. That would be sanctuary for me. Surrounded by walls of books!!! AGH!...However, alphabetizing isn't exactly my cup of chai...but hey...you'd get to read and get paid at the same time! Wootness!

I know there's an editing company somewhere in California...i'm not exactly sure where, though. You could also be a librarian, and you'd be able to read in your free time.

You could be a book critic. But usually you have to have some journalism experience first.
That would be my dream job too.
