it will be 499$ for the 20 gb version and 599$ for the 60 gb version.........

The differences are more than skin deep...though those chrome highlights on the 60 GB model sure bring out our shallow side
We know it hurts, but the key reason for the price is the next-gen DVD format war. The PS3 will be Sony's first big mass-market Blu-ray player, making it a key strategy to capturing the lead in the next-gen format war... but the bad news is, we'll all pay for that decision. The Blu-ray drive is probably the single most expensive component inside the PS3.

The $499 model has all the same core capabilities of its bigger brother, with a few key deficiencies. It lacks HDMI video output, a sacrifice that's meaningless to the vast majority of gamers (component cables work just fine, thanks). It's also missing the integrated Wi-Fi receiver, the multi-format memory card reader, and it's got a smaller hard drive.

There are also eye-catching chrome highlights on the pricier 60 GB model. We still think the 20 GB model looks plenty slick, however

Which PS3 model should I buy? The 20 GB or the 60 GB?
That's up to you. But unless you're ga-ga for HDMI video output, or you're dead-set on using integrated Wi-Fi functionality, the $499 model will be the better deal. It's the exact same machine, with a few less frills. And you can always install a bigger hard drive or Wi-Fi access later, if you want

Oh Yeah I almost forgot, the ps3 will release on november 11th in japan and it will release on november 17th for the rest of the world(Europe, US, Australia

thats why i would get the ps3

A compelling argument can certainly be made for all of the systems, though it seems to me the Xbox 360 has the weakest argument.

The Xbox 360's biggest positive is that it has already been released and is available. I'm not sure if its at the point where you could walk into Wal-Mart tomorrow and buy one, without being very lucky, yet, but if its not it soon will be. The system is backwards compatible with "select" Xbox games and plays most, if not all, current generation DVDs. On the down side, just as we are experiencing a generation change in gaming, a similar transition is occurring in home video. Judging from how quickly DVDs overtook the market in the late 90's it seems entirely possible that within three to four years DVD compatibility on your Xbox 360 might be just as useful as a slot for a VHS tape. It seems highly probable that most Xbox 360 owners will find themselves buying separate next-generation DVD players in the coming years (for an additional 300-500 dollars, the launch price of almost all of these players is expected to be $500+, but this will likely drop once third parties become involved). From a game-play standpoint the Xbox has its marquee games, just as Playstation does. Clearly if you are deciding for one game alone then your mind is already made up(it is noteworthy that GTA 4 will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously, though). It is purported that the Xbox 360 lacks the power of the PS3 by almost everybody, so this seems like it is likely the case.

Not all to much is known about the Wii, except for its unique controller, emphasis on "game-play," and low price. It seems to be the most logical choice for a gamer on a budget who will likely not be buying a next-generation DVD player in the near future. Between the predicted $200 price tag ($100 less than the cheapest Xbox 360 and $300 cheaper than the PS3) and the interesting possibilities the system's controller allows for the Wii might not be bad choice. However, it must be taken into consideration that the Wii could fail shortly out of the gates, along the lines of the Dreamcast, which boasted a similar "revolutionary" controller and cheaper price tag, along with a year advance on the competition. Brand loyalty is unlikely to carry the system, as the Game Cube finished a DISTANT third in the current generation.

The PS3 seems to be the best choice of the new systems. Full backwards compatibility, Blu-ray compatibility, and the most powerful processors/graphics card of the generation seem to make it a sure success. Price is an issue at the release, but as the Blu-Ray - HD-DVD generation comes more to the forefront in the coming months the PS3 could possibly even be viewed as cheap relative to some of the other home players on the market. It will also start having given up a several million unit lead to the Xbox 360, but this can likely be overcome within the span of a year or at least a year and a half. The main concern for the Playstation 3 would be speculation about bugs or other shortcomings the system may have, but none of these can be confirmed until the system is shipped.

So, in summary, if you don't have much money buy a Wii, but otherwise you probably want to invest in a PS3.

(PS3 also will ship with wireless remotes, which will be nice!)

I want a Wii, for the simple fact that it is going to be THE gaming machine this generation. Its all about games and just games with a controller that really adds a 4th dimention. Its wi-fi features, including live downloads off of Nintendos servers 24 hours a day and the library of games available for download out of the box makes it awsome. If nintendo dose it right they have hit gold. But then again Nintendo is really good at screweing up good ideas.
The PS3 is vahhhhERY exspencive... so its gonna take me a minute to buy one but the fact its backwards compatable with ps2 and 1 makes it awsome. Unfortunatly sonys decition to make the PS3 cost so much kinda sucks it out of the "family" market. If i had a child i would not buy him/her a PS3, a kid dose not need something that exspencive. 5-600 bucks... Thats a daddy toy not a kid toy lol.
I have no opinions on the X-Box other then I feel that Micro$oft is kinda over their heads and really this will be their last generation in the gaming market. I think their trying to hard to make a computerish game machine thats going to be to exspencive and not offer enuff bang for the buck...

Also on a side note a 1up (er... no pun) for the game industry is the new trend of not adding regional codes to games because that makes importing so much easier. I dont know why the omitted them, maybe they relized that a lot of people import games from japan and saw the profit...? Well I dont know but its cool.

Im starting to ramble but my last think is the Wii's controler. Oh my god! It may lok a little silly but I really think its going to totaly revolutionize the way games are played. The DS already proved that even with a faster prossessor and a better screen you can still win with innnovative design. The PSP looks pretty but in no way is better then the DS. The DS kinda, in my opinion is what poratble gaming should be. And its "Backwards(?)" compatable with the GBA. Who could ask for more? This is revalent because the Wii is also going to connect to the DS like the cube conected to the GBA. Touchscreens, wirless motion detecting controllers. Everything is wierless so no annoying cables you have to buy. Its all going o be awsome. Soon we're goign to have VR machines as common place inthe home. That will make online MMORPGs be a n a tataly differen't level.

For me, gaming is about having a social experience, so I would have to say the Wii. It's really going to change the way people approach gaming. I think Nintendo is on to something by making games that anyone can walk into a room and play. If gaming is going to thrive in the real world, the manufactuers have to capture a larger audience.

Even so, I will probably get a PS3 in a few years after the price goes down. It's worth it for the Blue Ray player alone.

I would rather buy a Wii. Because it is the only console that I believe is really next-gen. It is going to offer a fresh new aspect on how to play video games. Not just really nice graphics. The PS3 and 360 do have some new things, but for the most part they just have really nice graphics. So I would rather play something that made me feel like I was truly stepping into the next generation of gaming.

I would get a ps3. because the controler is motion sensitive and the console has more features.
If $499 is too expensive I would get xbox 360 for $399 becase it's a better value than for $299. But if you've been a fan of nintendo games you should get wii. They say it's going to be under $250.

As a former manager of a video game store and gaming consumer I would buy a PS3.The reasons are as follows:The PS utilizes backwards compatibility that the other two do not. This stretches your gaming dollar. There is no need to buy additional controllers, power cords, remote units. etc.Since it is fully backwards compatible, your library of games is huge. The PS3 is also to be region-free,from the articles that i have read, meaning that the only barrier that gamers will have to overcome will be the language barrier. Good reason to study a foreign language. Its technical expandability will be a nice boost to any entertainment den.Though there is speculation on what it will have right out of the box, the prospect of what it will do is worth the wait.It is also an ENTERTAINMENT unit not a gaming console. To get the most out of your dollar,PS3 is the best bet.

Depends on preference and affordability. The PS3 is going to be $100 more the the top of the line 360, the graphics will be better on the PS3 (that is if they use it to their full capabilty) since it will be using blue ray technology. Next gen Halo will of course only be available for the 360. The Wii...well, i'm sure the next GTA will not be available on it. So it all really depends on perference of games and affordability.
