Ive got one of the Black and Decker electric lawnmowers... had to switch to it, because the arthritis in my shoulders wouldnt let me 'pull start' gas mowers anymore, lol.
I am very happy with our electric mower. Ive got a very good, heavy duty extension cord, and can reach anywhere in the yard with it... its quieter than a gas mower, lighter, easier to push, and, I have had no trouble cutting grass of any height....even really tall grass.
If you have a really small yard, you may want to consider one of the battery powered mowers, like the Neuton brand cordless mower. It costs a bit more, but you can get some nice attachments (like a trimmer/edger), and it is much lighter than even my B&D electric mower.
By the way, a Neuton will run $300 to $400 with the attachments... I paid about $180 for my B&D electric... and you will spend $90 to $150 on a gas mower....but that's just the initial purchase, .. then youve got gas/oil/filters/spark plugs, etc....
Ive had my B&D electric mower for 2 years now, and have had to do nothing to it... it's still running great.

The electric one will work, but I don't like the idea of 120 volt cord laying on the lawn waiting for me to forget it is there, to run over with the mower!!!! I use a three horse mower running on gas and it works great. I would rather put up with a little noise than getting electrocuted.

I love my Toro battery lawn mower that is 10 years old, but they discontinued the model. I had to replace the battery after 8 solid years of mowing my lawn and my neighbors (100x100 feet). It handled anything except 8" wet grass, and even then if you took half the width it would try! Toro, bring back this great machine before my well-used model kicks the bucket!

electrics are not muscle machines!! they will do a fine job on grass that is mowed regularly.. they will really strain if you leave the yard to grow too long,,or try wacking anything else,,, but they are great for little yards when you live close to neighbors!! they are less of a mess to take care of ,, no oil and gas,, depends more on your situation than the grass!!
