Look to your local junior college or vocational school/center for healthcare related training. The top (short training/retraining) classes in my area are Pharmaceutical Tech (10 weeks), Medical Coding (16 weeks) and Certified Nursing Assistant (10-12 weeks). The CNA has state boards after the class where there is a clinical skills test (with RNs judging each applicant) in the morning and a written test in the afternoon - 4 hours for both tops. If healthcare appeals to you, apply for an LVN or LPN class after you have passed your CNA state boards. You're ahead of the game; many baby boomers won't figure out that they need retraining for another five years!

Some of the hot occupations right now might not fit you, since you are 50. Not many companies will want to hire you since you are almost about to retire. I would suggest either being a morgage agent or real estate agent. Both require a good network of people and at 50 I am assuming you already have that.

This may sound funny but Network Marketing is bigger than ever! The training is great and they can put you in a position where you don't have to worry about job security again. I was earning over 100K at my last job but I hated it and after working just 5 months with a company called ACN I was able to walk away from that job and I have not been tied to a job for over a year now! It is great, they trained me and worked with me every step of the way. You can contact me through my website http://teamforce.acnrep.com Hope that helps, B.Russ
