Alcohol and soft cloth. You can buy "anti-static" cleaners at your local electronics store too. Don't use a paper towel or tissue as you can scratch your screen.

LCD monitors are often called flat panel monitors because they are flat and thin. These are the types of screens that are used in most laptop computers, and they are also becoming very popular for desktop computers. LCD screens are softer than CRT glass screens, so they require some extra tender loving care. Keep your fingers and sharp objects away from these screens since they are susceptible to damage and scratches.
Use a soft dry cotton cloth to remove fingerprints and smudges from the screen. If this does not completely remove the dirt and splotches, use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on the cleaning cloth that has been dampened with water. (A small amount of vinegar can be substituted for the isopropyl alcohol.) Again, spray the liquid on the cloth and never directly onto the screen. Do not use paper towels on an LCD screen as they can scratch the screen. Never use ammonia, ammonia-based cleaners, or strong cleaners which can cause the surface to yellow and become brittle.
It is good to have a special clean cloth that is dedicated to use on the LCD screen. Don’t pick up any old rag, as dirt particles in the rag can scratch the surface of the screen. Special LCD cleaning cloths are available and can be an excellent investment.
The best cleaning method is to stroke the cloth across the display in one direction, moving from the top of the display to the bottom.

The safe way and cheep way is with good old 70% and above ISOPROPYL Solution (Rubbing Alcohol). Now here is the safe part make sure the LCD is Turned off and Use a Cotton sheet preferably washed, worn, and soft. Make sure to only apply the solution on the Cloth not directly on the LCD screen and wipe left to right or from top to bottom. after about 30-60 seconds it will dry to a very clean LCD. ;-)

How you clean your LCD monito:
*The screen on your LCD monitor should not be touched by hands, pens, pencils, or any other type of object. The LCD screen should not have anything taped or stuck on it. The screen is the most important, yet the weakest part of the LCD monitor. Touching or attaching items to the screen can result in damage to the screen itself.
*
Only use cleaners that specifically say they are for use with a LCD monitor
There are wipes and cleaners on the market that are specifically made for cleaning LCD monitors.
*Please do not block the top of your monitor
The top of your LCD monitor is where the monitor ventilates. It is important that nothing is placed on the top of the monitor so the air can circulate properly.
*Place the LCD monitor on a surface that is flat and stable
It is important to place your LCD monitor on a stable surface so it cannot fall. If your LCD monitor falls, it can cause serious damage to the screen. If placing the monitor directly on your desk makes your screen too low of if you feel your monitor needs to be moved, please contact the Zone.

Well, that depends on your instructions. First, you should read your manual.
That said, most screens can be safely cleaned with a damp cloth and water.
The best stuff is surprisingly Monster Cable TV Cleaning Kit liquid, which can be used on LCDs, CRTs, DLPs, Plasmas, Projectors, etc. safely. One spray (bottle is huge) and wipe it with the included antiscratch cloth (huge and not cheap) and your monitor will look great. And believe me, for the amount of fluid (lifetime practically) it is a bargain.

It's also sold at circuit city, bestbuy, and other stores.
Hope this helps!

Try dampening a soft tissue with warm dilute detergent, gently wipe over screen, and then use another soft tissue (this time dry) to wipe the spunk off before it dries again.
